      <image:title>Sporting Clays</image:title>
<image:caption>Sporting Clays, is a clay target game that arrived in the US from Britain in 1980. It has great appeal to shotgun shooters because of the many target variations that closely resemble ducks, grouse, pheasants and rabbits (the rabbits are a special target that are thrown to roll along the ground and bounce at every bump) as well. Targets are generally presented in pairs either as Simo (at the same time but not necessarily together), Report (one is thrown and when fired upon the second is thrown), Following (one is thrown and then the second, whether the first shot is fired or not) and an occasional single target that is usually quite difficult at which two shots are generally allowed. Sporting Clays at the Fall River Rod and Gun Club was started by a group of interested members right around 1985. The group was led by long-time members Bob Bannister, Leon Russell, Gus Yankopoulis, Gary Severa, Larry Phelan, Dave Nuttall, Tony Russell, John Boardman and Harold Lehman. The club refused to buy equipment, so five members each purchased a trap to get things going, which certainly proved to the club that this was a good thing. We used some club members kids to operate the manually loaded traps as trappers. To say it took off would be an understatement. It was extremely well received by members and their guests also. We ran our first competition in conjunction with the Quack Decoy League. We were rewarded with 146 entries. One long-time club member remarked “I don’t know where they’re coming from but they just keep coming down the road”. We were born a “Sporting Clays Club” after our first shoot, in addition to already being recognized as a trap and skeet club. Today our equipment is top notch and we have an excellent following every weekend, year-round, weather permitting. We also occasionally offer a variation known as “5-Stand” which is multiple traps set up to throw any variation of targets that might be desired.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Archery</image:title>
<image:caption>Around the mid 1990’s The Fall River Rod and Gun Club joined several other area clubs in a league to allow 3D archery shoots on a rotating schedule in order to not compete with the other clubs. This league was named the Tri-County 3D Archery League. A different club had a shoot on every Sunday. We start shooting on the first weekend in January and continue until the end of October. This made it possible for each club to send their shooters throughout the area. With all the work involved to set up a quality shoot, it made sense for each club to have a few large shoots instead of several small shoots. Today we still participate in the Tri-County league, hosting 3 or 4 shoots every year. Currently, we are averaging close to 100 shooters per shoot. The course has seen many improvements recently and we are known for having one of the best shoots in the league. People come from MA, RI, CT, and NH. Our shoots are imaginative, realistic, and challenging but reasonable. We have in excess of 30 Rinehart targets (which are in tip-top condition) to allow us to set up our shoots with some variety of presentation. This provides the diversification that the best shooters look for. We have deer, bear, turkey, dinosaurs, alligator, fox, skunk, raccoon, vampire bat, pheasant and even a mosquito target. Our number one target is our BIGFOOT target. It is 7 ½ feet tall and shooters come from all around to shoot it. Our practice range is under construction and we will have 5 new weatherproof targets at ranges from 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 yards when complete. The club continues to support and invest in archery in order to keep us as one of the premier 3D archery ranges in Southern New England. Current Archery chairman is Chuck Reinhagen. <image:title>Pistol House</image:title>
<image:caption>Attention all pistol house shooters absolutely no magnums, rifle rounds or shotgun shells should be shot in the pistol house. In 1945 construction of our pistol house was started and on June 3, 1946 the official open house and first shoot was held. The cost of the range was $5,000, which didn’t represent the true value in light of the many member contributions of countless hours of labor along with their cash donations. The range has ten firing points all measuring 50 feet, and is set up for .22 rim fire up to 45 Acp (no magnums of any caliber are allowed). The range has been used by many organizations over the years such as the Boy Scouts and our own Junior Club. Member George Wilcox introduced uncountable young men and women to shooting and good sportsmanship; many of these future adults were shooting for NRA Qualification Awards. In 1987 the Pistol House was dedicated to George Wilcox, who was dedicated to the youth of the club for many years. Significant improvements have been made to our air filtering system, along with new LED lighting in the range, and a new heating and air conditioning system, to ensure that our shooters have a safe and comfortable environment to shoot in. In January 2016 we installed a new security system which allows 24-hour access to our range for members and their guests. Since our 24-hour access has been available, we have over 200 of our members with card access. None of this would be possible without our Range Safety Officer Training Program. This program ensures the continued success and safety of the range. Without the hard work and dedication of the RSO team this continued success would not be possible. For all questions or concerns related to the pistol house. Please contact Dawn Agrelo @ 508-264-1107</image:caption>
